"Don’t pay any attention to the haters — the Toronto Raptors are in the Eastern Conference finals and everything else is inconsequential.
As the Raptors prepare to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers Tuesday night for their first Eastern Conference finals in franchise history, Toronto fans have rallied over a perceived slight by CBS Sports. In its poll, the sports news broadcaster asked fans to vote on who would win the NBA Championship: Warriors, Thunder, Cavaliers or Other. The slight, which CBS attributed to the fact that the poll was created before the Raptors beat the Miami Heat in Game 7 Sunday, was enough to get Mayor John Tory to throw some shade.
“Please don’t hesitate to have your people call my office to get prime camera portions for the parade after the Toronto Raptors win the NBA Championship. Will we mark their space as ‘other’,” Tory wrote in a letter he tweeted out."
"On Twitter, #wetheother was trending, and fans had already created an unofficial T-shirt with the tongue-in-cheek slogan.
“It fits this city perfectly,” said Paul Colangelo in Jurassic Park. “In general we feel like no one likes us. We put on a persona that it's only us so I think #wetheother is kind of perfect, and it's perfect timing too.”
Despite early predictions from some that the Cavaliers (and specifically, LeBron James) would sweep the Raptors, the new CBS Sports poll shows that people are overwhelmingly cheering the “other” team.
In a new poll setup after the international fiasco, CBS Sports asks people who they think will win, Cavaliers or Raptors. About 95 per cent of 4291 respondents chose Raptors.
“We already beat Indiana and Miami, so it's time to shut them up now,” said Tomasz Wodzynski, confident in the team's success"
